Summary and Evaluations

Summary

Use the evidence presented in the data presentation, analysis and interpretation sections to produce a clear summary of you have found. This conclusion relates back clearly to the original question/hypothesis.

If you set a question, to what extent does the evidence provide an answer? If you set a hypothesis, to what extent does the evidence allow you to accept or reject it.

Evaluation

Carry out an evaluation of the extent to which the investigation fits your expectations of a sand dune ecosystem.

It should be recognised that conclusions are sometimes not wholly reliable. They can be incomplete and limitations can reduce confidence in the effectiveness of the study.

 Respond to the following points:

  1. The fieldwork was carried out in June
  2. There was one transect, running from west to east;
  3. There were 11 fieldwork sites;
  4. A combination of stratified and random sampling was used;
  5. Two measurements of each variable were taken at each fieldwork site;
  6. The weather before and during the fieldwork was wet for the time of year;
  7. Two local expert botanists assisted with identification of plant species;
  8. The weather data was from a weather station at West Buckland School;
  9. The tide data was from Appledore, two or three miles to the south.

 If you have any further ideas which will add to the evaluation of the investigation, please do submit your comments by navigating to the ‘Get involved' page.
